Drug discovery is risky, costly and time consuming. Thus, selection criteria reliably identifying promising drug candidates in early drug development are needed. Because empirical drug testing in simple preclinical models including subcutaneous mice is not sufficient for translation into the clinic, high content (HC) assays reflecting complexity and heterogeneity of patient tumors are required for high quality results. Moreover, these HC models have to be adaptive for high-throughput (HT) drug testing.
