Olympus has recently launched a range of versatile fluorescence research microscope systems - the xcellence line - which covers advanced live cell techniques, including real-time, high-speed imaging, TIRFM & HILO (cell^tirf), and photo control such as FRAP, FLIP & photo activation (cell^frap). With a series of new features, this portfolio enables users to continue advancing their microscopy research.

Olympus xcellence

This range of live cell imaging systems is designed to bring the most advanced fluorescence imaging techniques within easier reach of all users, while pushing the boundaries of optical imaging. The Unix-based controller provides the high-speed parallel component management required to ensure that each procedure can capture the most advanced data. The corresponding software includes the experiment manager, a universal planning and execution tool with a simple and logical drag-and-drop method for designing even the most complex and interactive experiments. The device line takes advantage of the company's own MT10 and MT20 fluorescence light sources to provide systems for imaging live cells over prolonged periods of time. Highly stabilized mercury or mercury-xenon burner control is therefore supplied, with very fast filter, attenuator and shutter changes. The system also offers Olympus Data Bus (ODB) enhanced controls for a broader spectrum of hardware, including laser linking for fast switching and precise control of laser lines. Furthermore, the system incorporates multiple high-speed (µsec) bidirectional TTL communication ports, to expand its hardware integration capacity.
