In modern laboratories the demand for clean and safe work was never higher than today. Intelligent systems can help minimize the negative effects which are generated by uncontrolled instruments.
Introduction
For decades, vacuum distillation with a rotary evaporator has been a standard process in every laboratory worldwide. From the first semester in the university up to high industrial laboratories the process of distilling solvents is an established procedure. Since the development of the first rotary evaporation in 1957, the main process for evaporating and condensing a solvent under vacuum conditions has remained the same. Despite this well developed basic technology the complete process can be enhanced with intelligent components to a complete system. The main reason to develop these systems is that negative impacts can be reduced significantly. Besides the reduction of solvent loss and emission the need to reduce impacts like emission of noise and heat has the potential to improve the working conditions for the laboratory staff. This protects the environment and employees in the laboratory. In modern laboratories these general requirements are getting more and more important. Needless to say that besides the reduction of emissions in laboratories, the implemented intelligence saves energy and that has a positive effect on costs.
