Qiagen and Labcyte, the developer of acoustic liquid handling, announced that Qiagen FlexiPlate siRNA reagent libraries are now available in Labcyte Echo qualified microplates. These microplates enable researchers to use the Echo liquid handler to miniaturize the transfer of small interfering RNA reagents.

Qiagen launches the qBiomarker Somatic Mutation PCR Array System, designed for rapid and accurate mutation profiling in basic research and drug discovery. The assays consist of collections of pathway or cancer-specific assays in 96- or 384-well plate formats with a number of pathways (EGFR, ErbB2, etc.) and cancer types.

Qiagen and Epigenomics, the cancer molecular diagnostics company announced that the companies have entered into an option agreement allowing Qiagen to develop and, should Qiagen exercise the option, commercialize a colorectal cancer blood test based on Epigenomics' proprietary biomarker mSEPT9 and certain DNA methylation analysis technologies.

Qiagen to acquire stake in Alacris, gaining access to biomarker pipeline for use in personalized healthcare assays. Alacris Theranostics is a German start-up company using novel technologies to develop individualized cancer treatment strategies based upon a patient's genomic profile. Qiagen announced the launch of several tests for cancer companion diagnostics, CE-marked with the Rotor-Gene Q thermocycler (EGFR) and the PyroMark pyrosequencing system (EGFR, NRAS, KRAS, BRAF). The new tests are used in personalized healthcare of cancer by identifying certain mutations in these particular genes, which then help clinicians to select and tailor the most appropriate treatment.
