Sigma Life Science Collaborates with Cofactor Genomics

Sigma Life Science announced that its SAGE Labs initiative has partnered with Cofactor Genomics in an effort to sequence genomes for six of the most widely used strains of rat. As part of the agreement, Cofactor Genomics plans to generate and analyze sequence data using next generation sequencing systems, while SAGE Labs plans to provide the samples and to host a new, free public database at sageresearchmodels.com in late 2011. The database will include exclusive genomic information and analysis tools. more

Study on Epigenetic Proteins Involved in Cancer and Stem Cell Biology

Domainex, the Contract Research Organization committed to drug discovery,announced a collaboration with Sigma-Aldrich that will provide essential tools, including biochemical assays and monoclonal antibodies, for the study of proteins involved in the rapidly developing field of epigenetics. These epigenetic proteins regulate DNA expression and can be critical to cancer and stem cell biology research. Mark Cassidy

SAFC, a member of the Sigma-Aldrich Group announced that Mark Cassidy has been appointed Vice President of SAFC's Contract Manufacturing Services. Cassidy joined SAFC in January 2009 as Director of Global Sales and Marketing, responsible for SAFC's contract manufacturing sales worldwide, which encompassed small and large molecule capabilities. Cassidy was promoted to his new position on September 20, 2010, and is based at SAFC's Cambridge, UK, facility and reports to SAFC President, Gilles Cottier. more

Novel Biomarkers for Cardiovascular Disease

Sigma-Aldrich announced it has entered into an agreement with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health, and Boston University (BU) to develop methods to measure several potential biomarkers of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD) using plasma samples from the NHLBI's Framingham Heart Study (FHS), one of the most prestigious clinical studies in medicine. Funding for the project is provided by the NHLBI to Sigma-Aldrich under a research subaward agreement with BU. more
