Young Talents in Protein Biotechnology: Rainer Rudolph Foundation Launches New Prize

Rainer Rudolph Foundation: This year, the newly-established Foundation will be awarding prizes to young researchers who have completed an outstanding final thesis (Bachelor's, Master's, Diploma or Doctoral as well as cooperations between academia and industry) in the fields of protein biochemistry and biotechnology. Each of the Foundation's three prizes will be worth a total of €1,000 - applications should be submitted directly to the Foundation by 31st March 2012. more

Bruker Acquires Hecus MICROcaliX Product Line

Bruker announced that it has acquired the assets of Hecus X-ray Systems, a company focused on analytical instrumentation for Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) based on advanced Kratky technology. Financial details were not disclosed. more

Amgen to Acquire Micromet

Amgen and Micromet announced that the companies have entered into a definitive merger agreement under which Amgen will acquire Micromet, a biotechnology company founded in Germany with its research and development (R&D) center in Munich and headquarters in Rockville, Md., for $11 per share in cash. The transaction, which values Micromet at approximately $1.16 billion, was unanimously approved by both the Amgen and Micromet Boards of Directors. more

Qiagen to Provide siRNA Libraries in Labcyte Acoustically Compatible Microplates

Qiagen and Labcyte, the developer of acoustic liquid handling, announced that Qiagen FlexiPlate siRNA reagent libraries are now available in Labcyte Echo qualified microplates. These microplates enable researchers to use the Echo liquid handler to miniaturize the transfer of small interfering RNA reagents. more
