In Memoriam of a Famous Separation Scientist

Uwe-Dieter, passed away aged 62 on December 3, 2010 after a brief illness.
Uwe was born in Neunkirchen (Saar) Germany. He earned his PhD., from the Institute of Applied Physical Chemistry at the University of Saarbrucken, Germany in 1976. He was a mentor and counselor to dozens of colleagues throughout his 34 years at Waters Corporation, where he held the position as Director of External Research. Uwe's work has been described in nearly 150 technical papers and book chapters in the field of chromatography. He is member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Chromatography and the Journal of Separation Science.
Through his publications and presentations, especially in column chemistry, Uwe mentored many chromatographers and encouraged them to perform at a higher level. His contributions have, and will continue to have a positive effect on the lives of people through the research in the medical and scientific world that benefits from his work.
Uwe leaves a legacy of knowledge that has benefited thousands of chromatographers throughout the world. We can honor his memory by holding to his high standards of scientific integrity and freely sharing our expertise with others.
Uwe will be sorely missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
