The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has released a website that allows access to information about the pollutants that are released into local waterways. The tool called "Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) Pollutant Loading Tool" uses discharge monitoring report (DMR) data from ICIS-NPDES to calculate pollutant discharge amounts. Several tests have shown that the tool's calculations are correct.

EPA's Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance assistant administrator  Cynthia Giles was quoted by the St. Louis Public Radio "Transparency leads to greater accountability and better information about pollution in our nation's communities. By making the data we collect available in easy to use tools, we are keeping Americans informed about the health of the environment in their neighborhoods."
